New hubs come with races installed, new bearings and lug nuts. If you can't work a chisel and a hammer. Driving them in is more problematic than taking them out.

Dave, I saw various sets on the interwebs in the $27-35 range. Surprisingly, Harbor Freight was not the least expensive. I think some of the auto parts stores were the less expensive. To me, when tools like this are under say, $40, there's no reason not to have them, even if you only thing you'll use them a few times. Because, when you need 'em...

The converse is over $50. For example, I needed a hammer drill to set a shelf in my brick walled house. I could have borrowed a friend's, but I figured I'd need it again sooner or later, so I got a cheap one from Harbor Freight. I waffled over a cordless impact driver. I really needed one to remove some stuck bolts in my Force 5's rudder bracket. Well, after my old 18v NiCad drill batteries started a shorter life cycle, and seeing a Ryobi set of lithium battery powered drill and impact driver for only $130, I figured what the heck? Damn glad I got that impact driver, I imagine it will come in handy sooner or later. Takes stuck screws and bolts out like butter!

I am with you on that. I thought that set would have cost a lot more but not so. I used a 2 X 4 to pound in. However, I am glad you advised folks of that.

To install the new races, I take one of the old ones to the grinder and grind the outside down all the way around so it slips into the hub easily where it used to be. Now place the new one on the hub with the ground down one on top of the new race. I then place a socket on top of the old race and drive it in with a hammer. This has worked well for me. Hope this makes some sense to you guys.
