I agree with dan, just above the spreaders seems to work fine. what Paul's talking about is a formulato calculate the size of your dead zone based on the height of the antenna and the vetical beam angle---tan(1/2 beam angle)=deadzone distance/height above waterthe other relevant equation is the horizon distance vs height, but that's a square root relationship-you don't gain much range as you go higher, but you lose on close in distance.another factor is the pulse timing-the close in reflections simply come back too fast for the radar to receive them. this distance varies from radar to radar, but maybe defines a 100 ft circle around the boat where you can't see anything.I'll post the other 2 equations when i get back home
