My Simrad 4G stopped working after we weathered a storm at Port Jeff while on a mooring. The message at the chartplotter is "no radar" as well as in the setting when looking for radar source, the message is "no radar available" . The boat is currently on a mooring in Keyport NJ, any information re: service that can he had in the water would be appreciated !!!!!

Welcome to SBO.

It may seem obvious, but have you checked all the connections and fuses? Are all the other devices on the network available? Have you called Simrad Tech support? If Simrad Tech support is anything like it's sibling B&G phone support is excellent, email support is so-so.

Corrosion at the terminals would be my first look. Wire brush and squirt a little WD-40 on the ends and reconnect. I once made the mistake of replacing ALL of the electric wiring for my navigation lights only to discover the problem was at the battery terminal. Lesson learned the hard way. Now, anytime I have an electrical problem, the first thing I do is clean all of my terminals. 50% of the time, that fixes the problem.

You most probably have water intrusion in one of the connectors causing a short circuit. Start by undoing all the connectors, cleaning and carefully reattach. Sorry for you but the most probable place is at the radar dome in the mast for water logged connectors.

My Raymarine Radar did same thing when the Battery Supply voltage dropped below a thresh hold Voltage.

I recall < 11.7 VDC.

When battery was recharged, Radar resumed.

If it happened right after a storm check the connection at the bottom of the mast where the wire is spliced. Water may have gotten in…… Deck stepped mast? All connections to battery as was said, ground especially.

good luck
Greg
