I want to install a radar on a B32C and I'd like to hear from people who already installed a radar. I'm particularly interested in the height from deck and to hear if there is interference from the sail when tacking. Pierre

Not sure whether Igor is joking or not, but I'm actually concerned about installing my radar on a backstay mount. It is after all sending out strong micro waves and standing below it only a few feet over my head does not sound very smart. On a pole behind me sounds even less smart. I read where motorcycle cops had very high testicle cancer rates from their radar guns. I see a lot of sail and power boats with the radar just inches from the top of their heads. Probably the safest mount is on the mast in front of you. There's thousands mounted there over the years. I'm sure if the gib interfered with it, it would be common knowledge. The only draw back for me is drilling more holes in my mast. But maybe better that than microwaving your brain.

For JB & Nice N Easy

Your right N&E, I will play with it until I get very familiar with all it's function and it becomes a second nature, this may be a life saving investment, I will use it and I will test it regularly. This morning at breakfast I'm telling my better half I asked for suggestions for the radar installation on a forum and I'm telling her about Igor's comment from Yugoslavia when she starts to laugh so much I told her it was not that funny which made her laugh even more. When she could talk 5 minutes later still laughing she said "I'm Igor". Hasta luego.

Bayfield 32C

By your name, you sure have French ancesters. As far as I'm concern there's no problems with Bayfield sailboats, they are solid and well build. However the engines are sometimes not powerful enough. I was looking for 20HP minimum for a 32C and that's what I found. If you sail on Lake Champlain 15 HP might be enough but to go where you could get caught between two Islands against tide, a ratio of 2HP per 1000 pounds of displacement is better. The designer of Bayfield now builds "Gozzard yachts" and the engines on his new design have a higher ratio. Hasta luego and good luck in your search it took us two years.
