George, installed a radar and radome on my B331 a couple of years ago. No problems with the installation, pretty straight forward. Worst part was fishing the cable through the mast making sure that the cable was inside the raceway in the mast. There are two raceways on my 331, one goes to the top of the mast and the other to just below the steaming light. Mounted the dome just above the steaming/deck light combo. The screen is mounted in the pod at the steering station. Had to move my autopilot head to the combing next to the manual bilge pump to allow the screen to fit the dash.
Went through a lot of back and forth in deciding to mount on the mast or on a pole on the stern rail. Decided on the mast mount because thought it looked cleaner and wanted to get the height not only for distance but to get the transmission higher so as not to zap anyone. There is not a lot of stern rail space on my 331.
Have to pay attention to the length of the cable run which dictates heavy or light cable. As I recall, I think I had a heavy cable with a light cable extension. Mounted a connection box at the base of the mast inside the plywood cover in the salon and that was the only connection/splice that I had to make. My unit was a Raymarine and they recommended not having any splice in the cable. However after questioning them they said that one or two at the max shouldn't be a problem. I haven't had any problems.
Have not had a problem with the head sail (135) hanging up on the dome when tacking and also have good definition of objects dead astern of the boat.
If you have any specific questions when you get into the install, Id be glad to try and help you out. Feel free to contact me off line.
The radar has proven to be a great comfort when getting caught in bad visibility. Still scary but you don't feel blind. With all the great toys available for navigation these days, it's a wonder we ever survived without them!
Good luck,
Barry
