I was thinking of replacing my Racor Model 110A with a new Racor Model 120A fuel filter. The reason is that the Racor 120A has a plastic see thru bowl with a drain. The 110A has a metal bowl only. The 120A has a max fuel filter pressure of 7 psi and the 100A has a pressure rating of 100 psi. I assume the pressure rating is because of the metal bowl. Other than the plastic bowl and the pressure rating the filters are identical. I don't think the rated difference in presure is a problem but I wanted to get an opinion. Im pretty sure there is no positive pressure in the filter since it is on the suction side of the fuel system. BTY I searched the archives and did not find anything regarding filter pressure ratings. I also heard that the plastic bowls rot and only last a few years. Does anyone have this experience? Thanks George s/v Windswept _/)

Should be fine

I also replaced my 110A but with a larger 215 Racor unit. The reason was to get a plastic bowl with a drain that I could inspect for water acculmulation. The is no pressure on the suction side unless the tank is higher than the filter. My tank is higher and I have no problem. Plastic rot? Never heard of that.... I would recommend that you choose a raycor filter that is easy to get and is carried in stock by most stores. My model 215 is an 'oddball' and I have to order the replacements only from West Marine.

same one George.

George: I also have the 120 on our Yanmar 2GM20F. Been there for so many years I cannot remember. There is no pressure on the unit (suction only) so I do not see that there could be any problem. Remember when you purchase filters that they have a couple of different ones R12S (2 micron) R12T (10 micron). You probably want the R12T.

racor plastic bowl

the plastic bowl should be fine George- the Coast Guard mandated metal bowls on in-engine compartment filters because of the fire danger with gasoline engines- if the engine caught on fire, the resultant gas fire could melt the bowl- not really an issue with diesel
