I am interested in changing the Element in my Racor Filter on my Yanmar engine. Everything is working but I have no idea how old this Element is and I have a new one on hand so better safe than sorry. My Racor is an older model, a 500 FE. I took off the T handle, I cannot get the "lid" it screws into to budge, is it threaded on or does it just sit on the lid gasket? Any help is most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Big Joe

If it's the same as the 500FG

The lid just sits on a gasket. If it's been there a while it might be "glued" in place with residue. I'd suggest tapping upward around the overhanging lip with a wooden mallet (or a small hammer against a wood block) to break it free. It shouldn't take much force so go easy.

Try this link

Its a different model but might be similar, you can also search "Parker" because thats the parent company that owns Racor,I think the lid comes off on yours and it might be frozen because its aluminum.

Rick and Rad, thank you gentlemen.

Thank you both for your responses. I checked out the link RAD and I got the PDF file for a similar looking model and it looks like it just sits there. As you both suggest. I will get me a wooden block and do a little gentle persuation on it. You are backing up what I thought. I appreciate you both. Big Joe

Big Joe: Next time try an auto filter wrench. It might work
