I run a 2008 Yanmar 3YM30 (29hp) in my Hunter 36. The filter assembly currently installed takes a Racor R12T (10 micron). No problems, but, there is no clear bowl to view water collecting...just the brass drain for maintenance. Recently, I purchased a Racor 500FG assembly that has a very large plexiglass bowl. Is this unit OK to install? Besides not churning lots of diesel through it at top rpm, it has many advantages...viewing for H2O and easier re and re of the filter (Yanmars are not self priming).

One of my first improvements to my 37c was a 500 FG for my 31 hp Westerbeke. Also installed one on my prevous morgan 34 with a 29 hp M26XPB.

You can add an electric lift pump, a squeeze bulb like an outboard, or you can carry a quart or so of clean diesel. If you lift the cartridge over the bowl and let it drain before you transfer it to a glass or wide mouth jar, you will not be short much fuel.

Yes Yes

Yes that filter is fine and exactly what I have on my 2007 H-36 and yes it is self priming which is new to yanmar newer engines are self priming.
When I had my 6 month check up the diesel machanic when changing all the filters told me and when I changed the filters myself it self priming.

Self priming is not new to the Yanmar engines. Our 1994 3JH is self priming too.

Just wish that they never removed the decompression levers.

We are at the Mc donald's anchorage in Madeira Beach. Heading toward Caladesi Island state park for Monday. If you go, check tides/local knowledge. Last time we were there entrance channel controlling depth was 4 feet, but that was in the last century. No telling what Y2K brought.

Will be interesting to know

Will be interested in hearing how you do going into Caladesi. Last time I was there, didn't have the nerve to try it. Charts show 4' and no way of knowing how recent. Supposed to be very nice.
