PHRF Rating? Location???

Your rating will probably be different in various locations. Have you checked the archives on this site?

Ratings

I'm not at all sure that boats under 20' are rated. If you can't find one, you can always sail with a provisional rating until some numbers come in.

I googled "phrf ratings by manufacturer" here's a chart from lake lanier, georgia. http://strictlysailing.com/llphrf/base.html As you can see, no Hunter 170. Since Alan races alot I am inclined to agree with his comment. Most boats in that category race by Class not handicap. My suggestion is to call the manufacturer, check with Hunter 170 owners' association, contact PHRF in your area, or keep on googlin'.

Try USSailing - Portsmouth Handicaps

At least there you will find the Hunter 170 although it says without spinnaker. You should try the Hunter 170 Class association for more information. Try doing some look up on your own and see what you will find. FYI - most dinghy classes sail under Portsmouth Ratings. Fair winds.

hunter 170 can't be rated PHRF

to get a valid cert. boats must conform to certain criterion, such as have life lines. i noticed that this boat has none. our local club does convert such boats from a portsmouth rating. i don't know off hand what the conversion formula is, but there is one out there somewhere. we had one fellow in our club that got a phrf cert for his alerion express 20, when phrf realized their mistake they pulled his cert. the rules for most phrf org post their requirements on their web sites. s/v Que Pasa?

Show me one -

I have never known a PHRF association that said the vessel must have life lines. I know of numerous boats that have assigned PHRF ratings and they don't have life lines. I'm curious where that information came from. Thanks.
