Hunter 1990 Hunter 35.5 Toronto
Hi
Just bought a Hunter 1990 35.5 I previously had a 27' Aloha did a lot of racing for the past 20 years. I was wondering what the PHRF numbers are for the 35.5 and what to expect against similar PHRF numbered boats.
A lot of owners on this site have said the boat is fast just wondering how it performs say on a windward leeward course and in distance races. We have a 300 mile race on our lake that we might enter this summer.
Thanks Floyd

If your boat is the Hunter 35.5 Legend, it rates in Southern California PHRF:

Buoy 141
Random Leg 135
Off the Wind 135

I had a Hunter 35.5 Legend with the shorter keel with bulb and wings. We couldn't point worth beans but we were fast. If we kept the boat moving we'd be at the windward mark among the firsts. Then with that keel, downwind we were dangerous and would pass two or three boats on that leg. If there were any boats ahead of us.

We won Boat of the Year against a good sampling of boats and skippers. I had a good crew and we had fun. The 35.5 is a fast, fast boat. Somewhere there is a video of 35.5s racing in the Bahamas somewhere in fairly heavy wind. They are flying and their jibes were absolutely amazing. I was sure the masts were coming down. Apparently Hunter designed and sent over a number of these boats for this international race. Then the boats were sold to customers, one of those boats is here in the northwest. You might call Hunter and see if they have a copy of that video.
