Dear Fellow Boaters, I want to thank all those who responded to my letter regarding C30 upgrades. I feel so much more informed about what to do. Thanks a million!!!!! My new querie is this: is a C30 an enjoyable and fairly competitive boat to race in club PHRF races? I have a C27 now and I have done quite well with it in "no flying sails"(no spinnaker) sailing events this past year. Now, for mainly reasons of having more room and stability (for my wife and 1 & 1/2 children!) and a spinnaker, rigging and pole for me, I want to upgrade to a C30. I am looking at C30's very seriously but I still hesitate when it comes to the racing aspect of them. I race weekly throughout the year on my C27 and I also go on weeklong cruises 3 or 4 times a year. I do want a boat that is a cruiser/racer. Should I look for another type of boat? Is a C30 appropriate? What is roughly the PHRF of a Tall Rig with bowsprit and spinnaker?.If any of you C30 racing types could reply I would much aprreciate it. Thanks again, Alan Keil Vancouver, BC

Great PHRF boat

We have found the 30 to be a great PHRF boat. We have been winning with it for years now. Ours is a standard rig and after years of winning our number is down to a 178 which is well below the national average for a standard rig and we keep winning. A well sailed 30 can do well especially in heavier winds when raced with out the spinnaker but needs the chute in the lighter stuff.
