In another thread, I stated if two matched Catalina's or two matched Hunters were racing that the boat named Djokovic would win. As I expected, when Murray won, I received 3 personal Emails telling me, in a very nice joking way, that I picked the wrong boat to win. Had I been watching that boat race it would have been the best boat race I'd have ever seen.
Personally, I never liked PHRF or "beer can" racing. I want to be first over the finish line but that's just me. I love matched boat racing such as the Congressional Cup races in Long Beach, Ca. Obviously, I'm not in that league but I was fortunate to be able to race on the C30 National boats up and the down the coast of Ca. I couldn't afford or get the time off to go to their other events in the US but I was there in spirit. The way it worked was a group of us would go to an organized C30 race event and the folks that ran the event would give us the most crappy boat they could find (except in LA where I picked the boat) and we'd race against their fleet. For the most part, it sort of doesn't matter how crappy the boat is. In other words, you can make up for a lot of the boats short comings with good sail trim. It was an exciting time and I really miss it.
Anyway, that tennis match (boat race) could have gone either way right up to the finish line and that's exactly how I think every race should end.
