Red there is a bar of options below this post.
It will read : reply(with quote), reply, edit.
You may choose when you wish to reply with a quote and when you wish to post a plain reply.
You may also click reply with quote and left clicking your mouse sweep your cursor over the portions that aren't relevant to you reply to highlight them and then delete those portions.
As you can see I have replied with a quote but I separated your two questions with the cut and paste tools
Quotes: please, please, don't overuse them. Some folks make long detailed OP which is good 'cuz they usually provide a lot of info. Then the first responder quotes it and includes his answer. Seems to me that unless you're responding to a post that is a few posts above, there's no reason to overuse quotes. I do a lot of copying of the topic to print them out, and overdone quotes eats up paper pretty quickly. Just another "pet peeve" of mine -- I see it all over on message boards.

Yes I often edit them also to remove any unnecessary parts. I like using the quote feature because it keeps your answer specific to the question or a specific portion of a question.
You can also BOLD a section of a quoted text, as I did above, to highlight the portion you are agreeing with, specifically addressing or discussing..
A little html goes a long way on this forum. That's one of the great changes Phil made when the site was revamped a while back. http://www.w3schools.com/html/
