Quiet year here and on the coast of Maine.

Alden 38' Challenger yawl Rockport Harbor
We've been out quite a bit if close to home. It's been hot but the sailing has been terrific. We were on a mooring next to ECHO in Cabot Cove last week. Beautiful spot to spend a beautiful evening on Penobscot Bay.

Tom, you have a beautiful yacht! Rowing away in your dinghy must bring a wide smile of satisfaction.

I'm a recent new member to this forum and have been soaking up the posts. My wife and I just received information about TARNA from Cannell, Payne & Page and I'm doing as much research as possible about the Alden Challenger and your excellent post clearly show your passion for the craft. We live in Hampton, VA and sail the Chesapeake Bay, but have dreams of sailing the East Coast and ultimately a winter in the Caribbean. In your opinion, is the Challenger a seakindly and capable ocean crossing yacht (assuming appropriate gear)?

Best Regards,
Jeff Harrison

Hi Jeff. I think Challengers are more than capable for what you have in mind. Tarna doesn't have the large D ports so would not likely need extra shutters of some kind that are fitted for protection of the large plates of glass on most Challengers headed far offshore.

Let us know how Tarna evolves for you and your boat search. Good luck!

Received and email today, the owner has accepted an offer and sadly it was not from me. So...still looking. Found one the U.K. that is
very well equipped (in mast furling, elec. winches, etc.) but at a much higher price. It's fun to dream of sailing her here via the trade wind
route though.
