We have a 1998 Quicksilver 300 inflatable dinghy that the fabric all along the top, where you sit, has gotten "sticky" like something was spilled on it, but nothing was! In taking with others in our marina who have owned similar Quicksilver dinghys, they've said they had the same problem. We're trying to contact the manufacturer of Quicksilver, but can find nothing for "Quicksilver" on the internet. Has anyone encountered similar problems, and if so - what did you do and who did you contact? Many thanks!

Found this online...

I'm not sure about the validity of this info, but I found this on a site called boatguide.com, which has a 'Resource Center' that lists manufacturer's addresses: Quicksilver Inflatable Boats P.O. Box 1939, 1939 Pioneer Road Fond Du Lac, WI 54935 Phone: (920)929-5000 I've also included a link below. The E-mail address listed went back to boatguide.com, so I figure it isn't to the factory... A phone call may be the best option here. Good luck! --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Quicksilver - Mercury Marine

Quicksilver I believe is a subdivision of Mercury Marine. They use the Quicksilver name on two stroke oil and other products they sell as well as the inflatables. From everything I've read on your problem (not uncommon) it is related to the PVC material versus Hypalon. Sunlight breaks down the PVC and your left with a gooey mess. No fix that I know of, best to keep them covered when not in use. dave

Same with us

We have the 1998 270 and the grey color is starting to come off and leave tanish sticky spots like something has been spilled on it. I have been trying to remember what I spilled on it, but couldn't think of anything. And besides, it is all over the top of the tube and also some on the air floor. I was going to take some digital pictures this weekend but it was too rainy. I will take some soon and post on the photo forum. What is the guarantee on the fabric?

Same problem.

We also had about 3 Quick Silver inflatables. There is nothing you can do about this problem once it occurs. We had about 4 of these things under warranty and always kept having problems. Leaks, seams spliting, sticky fabric. My final conclusion was that a PVC inflatable is OK if you put it away after each outting. When we got our last shell (just fabric) we gave it to our son who has been using it for the last 4 years without any problem. We now have a Caribe RIB. We NEVER cover it and it sits outside year round. No leak, no seam problems, no sticky fabric. Does it cost more initially, YES. Does it oost more (not in the long run).

Has anyone tried painting an inflatable??

There is a product at WM called MDR Inflatable Boat Top Coating, "Restore Hypalon or PVC. Remains flexible. Inflatables can be deflated and rolled without cracking the coating. Quart covers 10' boat." Has anyone tried this to recoat the sunburned top of a PVC boat??

inflatable paint

I think MDR is a bottom paint I used one year on my inflatible. Wasn't apprecibly better than no bottom paint. Now use A2Z by Pettite for a bottom paint and works well. Just a rinse at end of season. I've had a PVC inflatible for 3 season and leave it in the water from May to Nov. Haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the post. Differences in PVC? Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410
