I'm looking for a better way to lower & raise the mast without having to manually loosen then tighten the forestay turnbuckle. Has any one tried the quick release lever? The forestay has to be reduced in length, and that's easy to do, but what other things will I run into, pros & cons. TIA

I Looked at Those Too

Dismissed it as too expensive. I figured the forestay would need to be shortened as well. I put some anti seize on the threads of the turnbuckle and it is much easier to adjust. Let us know.

Forestay quick release

Thanks Rick, I will give the anti sieze a try. I kwould like to be able to lower the mast into the crotch when I come to a low bridge the easiest, quickest, safest way possible. I have practiced doinng this at the dock with the mainsail slides still attached to the boom, the head sail disconted to the forestay yet stored in its blue bow cover bag and it works for me. My dock is in very sheltered waters, but in less sheltered places with water action on the boat, I don't know if it can be done.

I've Done it That Way

But I wondered if it would have been better to use the jib halyard and winch instead of using the main sheet. I have not tried it that way but with the boat bouncing around and my butt hanging off of the bow rail I wished I was back in the slip or on the trailer. One other thing to think about is the ubolt that anchors the mainsheet when raising the mast. I replaced mine with a big cast padeye. There is not much support under the ubolt and the holes are big cannot be sealed well and it leaks. We should sail out and meet in Navarre one weekend.
