Quick Light question

Ive been looking in Chapman's and The annapolis book of sailing but wasnt able to find a direct answer to this question:Does an inflatable 11' dingy with motor require a white stern light?..I have the bow light but asking about the stern light.Thanks Rob

Depends

Don't you love definite answers. If you display the red and green bow light you will also need the white all around light at least one meter above the sidelights. For a vessel that less than 7 meters (23') a white all around light is acceptable. A lesser known caveat to this is if the vessel is capable of traveling at more than 7 knots you need the sidelights. I would mount the white light to the top of the engine cowling, well above eye level.

thanks Rick,,thats just how I read it....thats why I had to ask.....Ill get the stern light and avoid the ticket.
