quick info needed

anyone have any information about the mooring field just north of the holland tunnel in NYC?

you can easily see it in the satelite view of the map below

wow--by the looks of the stuff in the neighborhood, looks as if it could be muni---if there is such a thing there--is like ours here--in the middle of no where with construction all around and cruise ship lines and soccer stadiums--we have baseball across bay from us..looks like a cool place. goood luck!!

only thing i could see to find out would be NY kayak co..212-924-1327. good luck they may know....

or NY cruise lines..they share that concrete block shape

It may be a mooring where locals store their boats. Don't think the location is a desirable stop for a cruising vessel. The traffic on the river starts at 6:00 AM and does not slow down till 11:00 PM. It will be mighty uncomfortable to be aboard a moored boat between those hours. Would suggest getting a transient slip at Liberty Landing where they have a water taxi into the city.

Thanks for the info and input. Our goal is to be in the city from shortly after mooring till after 11pm so the traffic isn't much of a concern (at least at night, morning may be another story), but liberty landing will be my backup option.

Just picked up a ball off city island and getting ready to hit the sack, we flew the chute the whole way averaging 6kts...

I have directed some Canadian snowbirds to this mooring area on their way south and they have used it successfully.
While this area of the Hudson may be a bit busier with passenger ferries then up by 79th street it is fairly protected from the current which 79th st. is not.
I just walked by this mooring area an hour ago and 'Four Points' was hanging on one of the moorings.

Caleb. Thanks allot for the info, we left City Island about 7am and got to Hell Gate right at the current change, and after a quick trip by Lady Liberty we picked up a ball about 11:30am, and after a shower and change of clothes, we went ashore around 12:30

didn't have any trouble with the mooring, but anyone looking to tie up there in the future should know that the access to the dinghy dock is closed, and restricted by NYC parts department personnel at 1:00am, and at 1:08am when we got back from the Frying Pan, I had to talk my way back to my boat.

An additional piece of useful info is that many of the moorings do not have pendants attached to them. They have a shackle out of the top of them to attach the pendant to by way of a large (inch and a quarter?) shackle pin that is removed. Before I go back to that mooring field, I will have a way to attach to the shackle, probably with a large carabiner as discussed on one forum or another in the past.
