Would you put bottom paint on a new bronze shaft strut?
The old one was bottom painted.

If not, what would you use on your prop and strut?

No paint on prop. Slather on baby diaper rash ointment that contains zinc oxide like Desitin. Good for a few seasons.

I've been painting my running gear with antifouling paint in saltwater for over 5 decades and I have seen absolutely no detrimental effects to the shaft, strut, or prop. Just do not paint where the zincs are going to go.
We were given a free professional coating of prop speed one year and I did not find it worth the money to do it again at my expense.

Yes, the object is to reduce the adherence of sea critters and making cleanup easier.
