Quick attach fittings

Hiee all,

I just came accross these today and am wondering if anyone on here has ever used them. They are fittings a bit similar to sta-loc but much simpler to install. 'This Old Boat' tested them at an independent rigging shop and have rated them as good or better then sta-locs. Norsemans did not fair very well at all well below the others.

Those are actually made by a company called Suncor Stainless.

Part numbers are the same.

I purchased a set of left hand stud quick attach fittings for 1/8" rigging.

The fitting is secure to the line, however the stud was merely screwed into the body of the fitting and came undone during a storm.
Fortunately the boat was in a slip and I found it the next day.

I used red lock-tite to reinstall it and did the same to the others.
Haven't had any problem since.

Also used a set of 1/8" jaw fittings on the lower stay on the mast and found the jaw a bit bulky. Wound up rounding the corners a little and tweaking the tabs to align things.

Despite these issues I will use these fittings in the future.
I am a long way from any rigging company so these allow me to make repairs and upgrades myself.

The prices through Bosun are comparable to the Ebay store I bought mine from.

I used them on a 20 footer I had. I found them very easy to make up, and had no problems with them.

I used red locktite on them, as per the instructions.

We are completely replacing the double lifelines on the boat we just bought and have ordered the suncor fittings. it will cost a little bit more than the crimp or swage type but with Defenders annual sale and the fact that I can self install without buying a tool I figure we will be ahead of the game if we ever need to replace just one section. The only thing we didn't buy suncor brand was the cable itself. I read some rough reviews about the PVC coatings cracking in a few years. We will buy Loos brand for that.

Best to use plain uncoated stainless - you never know what is happening under the plastic. If it cracks or not water gets in.
