hello i am going to look at a oday 20 , any problems i should be looking for ? i don't now much about the boat, any advice would be appreciated . thanx mike
Heres the short list: Mast Step: excessive cracks at base Deck: hollow spots where the balsa core has rotted. This can be repaired by an injection of non-expanding insulation foam. Standing Rigging: rust between the wires..may warrant replacement. Keel: look at the junction where the keel meets the hull....no cracks (excessive flexing) Also sight along the keel....no excessive "bulges" that may indicate rusting of iron ballast. (I don't recall if the "20" had lead or iron ballast) General Condition: Does the boat look like it was "loved" or not? If not loved there is an increased chance that there are many more hidden defects. I have a 1972 O'Day 22...the "20" is a similar boat.....there a good solid boat. Good Luck!
