Questions on my 28

I've learned a lot about my newer to me 1982 28 from reading through these posts, but still have q couple of questions as I am trying to bring her back up to shape She's had at least 3 previous owners and at least a couple had a rather unique taker on what constitutes repair and improvement.
First, am putting the pressurized water and hot water system back in. No problem with running water lines or heater location, but can't see where to attach the engine coolant lines for it to my engine, a Westerbeke 10-2. no obvious plugged openings or fittings on thermostat housing or on block that I have noticed so far.
The heater is going into the port lazarette, which brings up another question. Was there originally a shelf in there? I ask because dang that thing is deep right now. I noticed a fiberglass ledge molded into the hull side about where I think a shelf should go, and it would sure be nice to cover the batteries, water heater, etc, while still leaving some storage. I am assuming if it did, it was removable?
Am also trying to quiet down the intolerable engine noise. Other threads have discussed ways to do this and I will be following their advice, but was wondering if the shelf/side wall combination in port lazarette would also help with this.
I also want to put the shower back in the head. Looks like it was originally designed to drain into bilge, but yuck. I would like to run to a sump box, along with the head sink, then out the starboard side thru hull in head area. Problem is I can't see obvious place to put the sump box; would be tight in the bilge and if I put it under starboard settee, wouldn't have much gravity help in moving water from shower to box, likely entailing another pump to get the water there. How did you all handle this?
Lastly, I have the manual bilge pump replaced and working, but also have an automatic in the bilge. Currently it drains out the starboard thru hull in the head area, which takes up a lot of space in the locker below the sink. Where should I run it. My current thinking is to run it to the stern and then use a y-valve to connect to thru hulls used for the cockpit drains, either port or starboard. /Or would I be better off using th y-valve to tie the cockpit drains together and dedicate the other thru hull just to the bilge. Bilge line would be looped at both ends to prevent backflow after pumping and to keep cockpit drain water from reaching bilge.
A lot of questions I know, but would appreciate any insights experience or pics. thanks

We had an '85 28, so I'll try to give you some answers based on how O'Day did things in that year.

Our 28 had a marine plywood sheet on what I presume is the same lip you're talking about. I'd describe it more as a false floor than a shelf though. There was some storage space for infrequent use items underneath. The water heater sat on the plywood, and we just stored other items in the lazarette around the heater, being careful not to bump the pressure relief valve. Out batteries were behind the engine to starboard, accessible from the quarter berth.
I would like to run to a sump box, along with the head sink, then out the starboard side thru hull in head area. Problem is I can't see obvious place to put the sump box; would be tight in the bilge and if I put it under starboard settee, wouldn't have much gravity help in moving water from shower to box, likely entailing another pump to get the water there
Ours came with the optional sump pump. It had a hose from a hole in a wooden insert in the bottom of the shower. That hose ran under the floor into the space under the front of the starboard settee, where there was a filter and diaphragm pump. The pump then pumped the water out a thru hull under the head sink, right next to the sink drain thru hull.

also have an automatic in the bilge. Currently it drains out the starboard thru hull in the head area, which takes up a lot of space in the locker below the sink. Where should I run it.
The factory ran our automatic pump line out to the stern, to a separate thru hull. They placed that thru hull up quite high on the transom, presumably to prevent siphoning. I'm not sure if they also had an additional loop. If they did it may have been somewhere in the lazarette.

Thank you so much Davidsailor26. False floor is probably a better description of what I was thinking. Hadn't thought about putting the heater on top of that, but something to consider. My 3 batteries are on the port side in the same lazarette up near the cabin bulkhead. Was thinking the false floor covering those might be useful to keep flotsam in there from banging into batteries and heater, but am now reconsidering
Also thanks for the tips on your shower sump and bilge. I was trying to avoid putting yet more holes in her, but it may not be practical.
