I'm not a Hunter owner, Yet. But I know what I want, a used Hunter Passage 42. I'm in Maryland but there seems to be more boats, with better prices in Fla. I'm a completely inexperienced sailor and also don't have the time to do the move myself. Besides hiring a delivery captain/crew is it also possible to truck it up here? What are ballpark figures for having it delivered (sailed or trucked)? Plus I'm looking to buy and have it delivered over the winter, is that a problem for sailing up the coast in the winter? Please forgive my ignorance on these matters and Thank You in advance for any help.

now is the time

If you are going to transport it by truck now is the time. In the fall of 2006 I had my boat trucked from Charleston, SC to Buffalo, NY, about 870 miles. The cost was $2300.00. Transporters are trucking boats South this time of year and are looking for loads back North so they are willing to take a lower rate rather than come back empty. Do not forget to consider the cost of preping the boat for transport, loading it on the truck and unloading at ther other end. This is a link to the company I used and I would use them again, very good. If you decide to sail it back in the spring let me know I might be available to help. Chuck Dickhut USCG Licensed Master

Check with Tidewater Havre de Grace

I don't know if he is still in the area this winter, but I know a fellow that some times works thru tidewater that is a delivery captain. If you give them a call, ask for Chuck. He could at least give you a feel for the cost associated with this type of delivery.

Depends

I think it will be cheaper to have it sailed home. If the weather is bad have it sailed first thing in the spring.

Remember 2 BIG things !

1. Boats are cheaper in FL for a reason. Salt Water exposure on everything & UV Sun Rays on everything. Plus the possibility of wind / water / wave / shallow water damage do to storms (lots of storm damaged boats not reporting storm damage).. 2. Fl is the place of "Broken Dreams". People / couples give up the dream and the boat. The boats at this point are not cared for or maintained. Lets get our money out quick Attitude - Lower Prices, also Lower Value & More Future Problems. P42 will get about 6 sm. (ICW in sm.) miles / gallon of fuel. Solomon Is. to Miami is about 1,200 miles. Therefore about 200 gallons of diesel @ $3.00 = $600. The trip on the ICW will take you about 24 days going 50 miles / day. Probably 25% of that time will be at marinas @ about $100 / night. Much, much cheaper to move boat by water if you have the time. I have done the trip 13 times in P42 & h450. A lot of fun but also a lot of work. Gordon on Utopia III, a h450
