Questions of refrigeration

I am not sure when I am supposed to run my refrigeration. It is the stock holding plate, both freezer and refrigerator that runs on 110v. I have owned the boat for 3 months and up until now I have only run it off shore power or when my generator is running. It seems if I run it for an hour or so two time a day it stays okay for a couple of days. I tried running it off the inverter but it crashes the inverter right away. In asking around I am told that there is now way this will work with the battery set up I have (again stock) 2 4d's. We have no solar. I was told by someone on the dock that I should be able to run it off the inverter if I am under power with my main engine. I am not sure about this.

We are just curious to hear how other Hunter owners manage this.

My seafrost holding plate system was 110v. They have a 12 volt compressor with the same footprint that I was able to drop in and replace the 110v compressor.
The 12 volt compressor will run more often than the 110 compressor but the result is the same.
At the dock, your 12 volt system will run off the battery charger fed by shorepower. Under weigh, the system will run off your battery bank which can be powered by your engine alternator if necessary.

Our boat system has worked quite well for us over the years. Both 12V units (freezer/refrigerator) draw from two 8D AGMs. Had to replace our 1991 AB refrigerator unit last year. Freezer units still does the job. Seems odd that someone decided to use 110V units on a sail boat.

The link below connects you to an article that I wrote awhile back about our reefer situation. Even during the summer cruising season where we spend most of our time either sail under way or on the hook the AGMs provide enough energy 500 ah to keep both units running for two days. That is when I run the Generator to heat water for washing, some cooking and topping off the batteries.

Wow 110 Ref on a sailboat is hard to believe some one would do that and must have runing
the Gen often to keep food from spoiling.
I have front load 12 volt ref and a portable 12volt ref and when out cruising run both 24/7
off 4-6volt batteries and yes have solar and never shut the ref off even at night.
