I have all but decided that a Hunter 37C will be my next boat. I currently own a Classic Charlie Morgan designed 33. I was wondering if all you knowledgeable H37C owners could dissuade me from buying one. Just kidding!! I would, however, like to know a few of the known quirks and/or sore spots that you may have come across, so that I may look for any in my search for the "right one" For instance, I've heard about the portlights leaking badly, as well as the toe rails. I've also heard rudder woes (Yikes, I re-did the entire steering system on my 33) and engine vibration issues. Please continue my list for me, if you have anything to add - I'll be watching closely, and I thak you all very much. When/if I become a proud owner - I will join your ranks and website promptly.... Have read the same.

However my 1979 appears to NOT have the toerail and portlight leaks. Despite that I am replacing the portlights with bronze and I have tightened the toerail bolts. I did find when removing the old portlights that moisture had penetrated the cabin sides. There was some minor delamination of the plywood. But I also know of boats where the plywood was completely rotted away. Just a matter of proper sealing. The nastiest problem with the H37C is the holding tank under the shower seat. See a current thread in the "Head Mistress" forum and check the "Forum Archives". My 2QM20 vibrates a little at some RPMs but then it is a 2-cyl and I expect that. With a 2-blade folding prop I motor along at 6 knots at 2400 in 3-foot seas. I'll wish I had the 3QM30 that is in most of the H37C's when I venture out of Lake Erie. My only complaint with steering is that the rudder bearing mounts are suspect. My surveyor pointed out that some fiberglass tabbing was loose. I will double the thickness of that plywood and heavily glass it in. Otherwise there is just too much information for here. Search the other forum's and check out the other web-sites. Check the "reviews" by going to "The Boats" forum and selecting H37C. There are a lot of H37C photos in the "Photo Forum" also. There is a Cherubini forum where most H37C info exists. And check Gene Greunder's site(Link below) for several upgrades including rudder. Good luck.
