Polars describe the performance of a boat under a set of wind conditions. See link below for a set of examples.Note: Your typical Hunter doesn't perform quite as well as these guys do: 9-10 knots going 20 degrees off true wind direction! I wish I could do half that at 45 degrees!
A Tack Tick is a digital compass that when programmed will tell you when you are being headed or lifted for the course you are sailing. It will also tell you what side of the course is favored I bought mine few year's ago and it is a great tool to have for racing. The Polars are something done by US Sailing I think for any given boat it will tell you optimum wind angle the boat will sail and also what boat speed is target for any given wind speed. It also gives up wind and down wind angles for sailing to a racing mark. US Sailing has a list of boats done and I think they did only one Hunter and I think it was the 35.5.Hope this helps..Cliff
for quite a variety of boats. Check their web site or call 401-683-0800. They will let your know if your boat is in their file. You lill need to furnish sail sizes, prop type etc for most accurate info. Polars are very handy to calculate speed
