Questions about trailering a O'day 25

My wife and I are in serious negotiations about purchasing an O'day 25. I am wondering how much weight a decent trailer will add to the towing weight of the O'day 25? (the total rig weight). I would also like to know how long of a rig we are talking about, obviously the boat is 25 feet, but how far out in front does the tonque of the trailer extend? (I know this somewhat depends on the trailer itself). I am just looking for a general "footprint" of the boat on the trailer. The boat we are looking at does not have a trailer, so I can't get a measurement off it. And finally if anyone knows of a trailer for sale that would accomodate an O'day 25 please let me know

Dwight:I just measured my 25 on the trailer and I estimate that the distance from the bow of the boat to the tip of the trailer tongue is about5 feet. I would guess that my double axle trailer is 700 or 800 lbs. I can pull the boat in and out of the water with my 6 cylinder Ford Ranger, but I wouldn't try to tow the boat down the road with this truck. Overall launching and retrieving my 25 (with a tongue extension on the trailer) is as easy or easier than launching the Catalina 22 I used to own.

Dwight:I just measured the overall length of my O'day 25 and trailer and it is 28' tongue to stern.I purchased the boat in the fall of 02 and I also purchased a custom trailer from Cradle Ride custom trailers (see their web page) located in Toronto Ontario Canada.I would guess that the combined weight of the trailer and boat would be approximatly 5300 lbs.I have only pulled the boat once with my GMC Safari van. The trip was from Windsor ont. to london ont. I traveld on the main highway (401) at speeds of 60 to 70 mph. with no trouble at all.The trailer has electric brakes, sway bars, and load transfer bars. Not your average boat trailer but then it dosen't pull like one either!Hope this helps youDoug
