Four Midwestern sailors are headed for the Whitsunday islands for a bareboat vacation and we are hoping to connect with sailors who have experienced this trip. Any input is appreciated (charters, anchorages, best sites, self provisioning, where to go , where not to go etc.) Thanks. DC

Chartering in Whitsundays

Same answer to post in HOW Site Talk Whitsundays Chartering, I'm envious, Doug! Submitted by Wayne Estabrooks on 7/1/99 Doug, I would recommend you start with Sunsail's website. I'm sure there are other charter companies also. I just returned from a charter with Sunsail in the BVI's and it was a terrific experience. Try www.sunsail.com or their Austrailian site, www.sunsail.au.com. I just took a look at their site and their largest charter base in the South Pacific is located at Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. They have knowledgeable staff and they can provide you with the information you seek. I understand it is a most beautiful sailing area with 74 islands in a National Park. Sunsail can provide you with a book describing all of the boats available and can provide their recommendations. I chartered a Hunter 410 and had 5 aboard in reasonable comfort. Let us know the results of your experience, we would like to hear.
