My newly purchased boat has a Harken MK-III Unit 0 jib furler system. I've read the manual three times and cannot understand how to affix the furling line into the hub. Once I get the line into the furling hub, how do I keep the furling line attached to the rolling hub??? This is my first experience with a roller furler. (If you have the manual, it's page 28 of the March '99 edition of the Unit 0 instruction manual that befiddles me!).

Most likely you have to thread it into the drum and then tie a knot in the line so that it can not come back out of the opening in the drum. Then wind the furling line around the drum until you have a small amount left in the cockpit. When you attach the jib, you will unwind the furling drum and the jib will wrap around the foil.

Oh, and once you get the furling pennant

attached to the drum you will want to be sure to wrap the spool in the right direction. Examine your jib/jenny along the leach. If it is a newish sail then there should be sun protective material along one side of the leech that is meant to be wrapped facing out thereby protecting the sail from UV rays. If you wrap it the wrong way then your sail will be protecting your sun protection strip. Don't ask me how I know this.
