I have a boom box in my V-222. It uses 8 "C" cells. What would happen if I connected the negative post of my marine battery to the "tail" of the boom box battery holder and the positive post to the "head". (Aren't you sorry you agreed to moderate this forum?) Thx for the help.

Depends

If all 8 cells are in "series" The output is 12VDC if they are in series-parallel the output is 6VDC. There is probably a connector on the box for external power; does it say what voltage to use? If so; you got it made SERIES = all batteries bow to stern... SERIES-PARALLEL= 2 sets of four bow to stern then commen positive and negative.

i did it

Joe, I did it. You can buy power regulator at radio shack that lets you adjust the voltage down to match the battery voltage by the radio. It plugs into a cigrette lighter plug.

Another suggestion

If you have a reglar AC type plug, for 110v current, just go to Wal Mart and buy yourself a little inveter, that will plug into a cigar lighter. That would be much easier and more dependable than trying to wire it up like your talking about. Also might consider some rechargable batteries. I use rechargable AA cells for my camera, and back up for a handheld GPS. Works pretty good.

dowels

Cut yourself a set of wooden dowels the same diameter as the c cells, and the length of the battery container. Wire them using copper nails for the pos and neg posts, and attach the pigtail of your 12 volt cigar ligher plug to them. That way you don't have to wire in your pigtail into the battery terminals. You can also pull the dowels out, when you want to use the boom box with regular c cells on the sea shore.

On the cheap

Since “C” batteries have nominal voltage of 1.5 each and 8x1.5=12 volts it should work if you can regulate voltage not to exceed 12.8 volts. Finally if the cost of batteries exceeds the value of radio I would do it and take my chances. You guys have some great ideas! Trevor
