Dave thanks for your previous reply! Since both of us have sailed the new 216 my experience tells me that a 4HP will be all I need for this boat do you agree? Steve thinks that at least a 5 HP will be needed as well as an electric start is the best choice. Electric start and 5 HP seem to me to be overkill for the 216, do you agree? Thanks for your reply! ED.

Your choice

The 5 hp which is probably built by Tohatsu does have an accessory charging system but it only puts out so much. I have found in the past that it is worthless unless you are out at nigght and the battery is dead and it will produce just enough to run the lights but not fully bright. Electric start is only available on the 8 hp and even that engine is overkill. Suggest the 4 hp 4 stroke Tohatsu, Nissan or Mercury. All three are the same engine built by Tohatsu. Thank you for the confidence. Wish you were near by to sail with us. Tonight is suppose to be cold in the mid atlantic states crazy Dave Condon
