I recently bought a new Tohatsu 8hp 4 stroke. The dealer told me to put a capfull of this blue stuff called startron in a 3 gal fuel tank. Is this good or bad?

Probably a good idea

Startron seems to get good reviews from most users. Just don't over do it. Good luck with the new motor.

Sounds Like Snake Oil!!!!!

Enzymes!!!! I could see possibly enzymes in diesl fuel to eat bacteria crud but in gasoline!!!! Enzymes do not work in the engines combustion chamber. Enzymes are proteins and proteins will gum stuff up. Does the dealer sell the stuff??? Probably a 1000 percent profit margin. According to the MSDS for Startron it is more than 95% solvent naptha and less than 0.5% active ingredient which they refuse to identify other than saying proprietary organic mixture which could be anything sugar??? So if it is greater than 99.5% inactive ingredient the active ingredient must sure be powerful!!!!! http://www.priproducts.com/tests.htm Above is a link to another product that is attacking startron as being just oderless mineral spirits. I doubt that PRI is any better than startron but at least they have some data. The data may or may not be valid. But face it if a product is truely effective and saves lots of fuel etc the government would get involved. Like some of those claims of 30% better MPG. If something actually gave that kind of improvement everyone in the world would be using it.

Startron....

I can't help but note that Startron is sold on this site and that the customer service guy here highly recommends this product. It would nice to hear from him as to whether any complaints, or compliments, about this product have been received by SBO.

Additives

Normally gasoline does not need any additives unless being stored...as in for the winter...then add a stabilizer.

No test data on startron

I called Startron a while back. I told them I was a scientist and would like to see the reports of test data showing that the product is effective and safe for an engine. They said that they did not have test data, just testimonials from customers. I would not use it. Allan
