Question #9 on sailing skills test?

I would like to get your opinion on the correct answer for the following question.Thanks,RoyceYou are sailing on a broad reach with 25 knots of true wind and a single reef in the main. You are preparing to round a mark and will be turning into the wind 90 degrees on the same tack. Hummmm. I see where you're coming from. The correct answer was #4, but really should be #1. Or am I wrong?Another one: On question #6, the correct answer is to load test the battery. Cranking the engine should not cause the voltage in a 12 volt system to drop below 9 volts....*that is unless the starter itself is defective. Checking the specific gravity of a known "good battery" can confirm it's level of charge. There are many variables with most questions. I guess the way to take a test is to select the first answer but without doing too much analyizing.

Q#9: "Trimming the main" seemed more correct to me, as it better reflected the vaguarities of the local situation.Q#6: "Reading the specific gravity" is always a correct indication of charge level, and would be my first choice as it reflects a "most likely" condition of under-charging or fluid level. However, it may not indicate a high internal battery resistance due to deterioration of the plates. A full-load test, as Calder suggests, will. Personally, I think you need to do both, as just a full-load test will not rule out the cause of an internal battery problem.--Ron
