Question 2 - Galvanic Isolator

I have a galvanic isolator alarm going off. A thorough check of all the lines and connections showed no loose connections. The boat is now just 10 years old ... how long do the isolators last? ... it had a two year guarantee therefore I assume they wear out at some point ... has anyone else replaced one?

they dont wear out, but they can go bad... just like any other electronic device.

what brand is it?... you should be able to test it, or send it in to the manufacture of it and they can test it and rebuild it if necessary.

Diodes can leak or just go bad. They are easy to test if you know how or should be cheap to have someone check.

There are two components, the isolator and the monitor. The isolators can be tested with an ohm meter. The monitor is what seems to go wrong with them, the isolator is probably fine. You can not replace the monitor or have it repaired by the manufacturer. I keep an eye on mine and will replace them with the newer fail safe units isolators at some point.
