Quest water fittings-don't mate with NPT pipe

I want to share my stupidity with others who may chase leaks in the freshwater system. The 83 vintage hunter 34 uses Quest fittings for water lines, which create a compression fitting to the grey plastic hoses. When I replaced my 2 way water tank valve, I assumed that the fittings were normal pipe thread...wrong..they were Quest. So when I installed my new $28 valvew from West Marine with NPT threads, could not stop water drips. After several hours of copnnecting, disassembly/tightening, a helpful soul at the new west in Denison TX told me that I needed NPT to Quest adapters... which they didn't carry. A trip to Lowe's Lumber where they had a whole assortment of Quest fittings solved the problem.

Metal Insert Inside Fitting

Leak at water tank: When connecting Quest to the water tank there are two ways to go. The option I'd recommend calls for a brass insert inside the Quest pipe when using the compression fitting as this gives something for the compression fitting (small brass triangular shaped ring) to compress against. Without the insert it is really hard to prevent a leak, if not impossible. Just want to mention this little detail in case there are others plaged by this problem. My boat came plumbed without the insert and leaked for a couple years until I figured out there was another method.
