Hello O'Day Owners, I am in the process of buying a 1984, 34' O'Day Sloop. The almost 20yr. old boat in my opion is in awsome shape and for the price, others can't touch it. But as with any used boat it has it's problems. It has moderate damage on the plastic rubrail about 10' along the port side and 6' along the stbd. side. The fiberglass underneath is untouched from any damage. The broker told me the it got banged against some pier pilings in a storm at the dock it was tied to...(See picture) My Question is; Does any body know where I could buy some of the origial plastic rubrailing and how much it will cost me? Trying to settle on a price for the boat. Happy sailing! Mark

Hey Mark, my Oday22's rub rail looks the same.I saw a replacement at West Marine but didn't check the price. It should be on their web site

Decent Marine Suppliers

Most larger marine suppliers ought to be able to help you with your rub rail. If all else fails get a copy of Hamilton Marine's catalog. I know they have it. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

There's the rub

Be sure to check with D & R Marine, the current purveyors of the O'Day line. Rubrail is listed on their line card. http://www.odaysailboats.com/ (see related link)

Rub Rail

I have an '83 34 and am very happy with it. Been there on the rub rail. Rudy at D&R can get it and he is a great resource in general. New rub rail will most likely be slightly different size - you'll want to replace it all along with the rubber insert. Not a bad do-it-yourself job if you're handy. Check with Rudy for prices. Good Luck with the boat!

What did your surveyor say?

About the "Dock Whump? Was the damage from vertical shifting against the piling or from some sort of continous horizantal banging? The guy who surveyed my boat noticed some spots where the previous owner had been a little to eager to get back to the dock. Things that I wouldn't have seen. made me look a little closer at the bulkheads etc. to see it there was any "transfered" damage. Also, I was looking for some rubrail earlier this year and discovered that you can go directly to the manufacturer. I've lost the info, but I went to BoatersWorld and copied down the manufacturers info off of the box, searched for them on the web and presto, was able to get in touch with them and order the stuff directly. The company also makes dock rub-rail too. Just my $.02. Geof

You can do it.

Mark, Last summer I replaced the rub rail on my O'23. It looked almost identical to the photo which you posted. D.I.Y. Marine carries several types of rails and inserts made by TACO Industries and sold through West Marine. You can also either rent or buy a video from West Marine showing the installation from a taping of the "Ship Shape" tv show. It really turned out to be quite simple and looks like the original. If you have any questions email me at pampel@gulftel.com Good Luck, Terry

rub rails

Hi, I have an Oday 35 an had to replace sections of the PVC rub rail. I was able to purchase the rub rail by the foot from the Oday parts company that is advertises in the back of Sail Mag. Their phone # is (508)644-3001. I was able to replace the damaged PVC sections and re-insert the black rubber into it. I had good results. Hope this helps. Frank/ Jib Sea
