Puzzle: Impeller Oberdorfer M202-3 Atomic IV

I am currently in Aruba doing an overhaul of my Columbia 36 with
Atomic IV engine. We're almost ready to depart to Colombia.

Unfortunately there's one puzzle I'm so far unable to solve. I'm
pretty sure I have an Oberdorfer 202M-3, although I can't check the
part number anywhere. The old impeller is heavily worn down and needs
replacement. However, I can't find the right part. I've tried the
Globe 815 (exactly the same dimensions as the Oberdorfer B6593), but
it pumps absolutely no water out. When I put the old impeller, it's
fine (pumps plenty of water), but I'm afraid it won't last long
anymore.

The difference between the two impellers is tiny, but visible. The old
impeller has a diameter of 2_1/8 inch, while the new Globe 815 is 2
inch exactly. Also, the height of the old impeller is 29/32 inch,
slightly larger than the Globe's 7/8 inch. Both have 6 blades and a
1/2 inch shaft.

I can't find out which impeller I have, and I definitely can't find a
suitable replacement. Can you help me out with this? An alternative is
to replace the complete water pump with a new 202M-3, but I'm hoping
this won't be necessary.

I'm open to creative solutions, e.g. buying a larger impeller and
cutting the blades to the proper size.

Thanks!

Try This

I suggest you send an e-mail to these people (see link). They are reputable and is where I buy all my filters. The odd thing is they sell the pump but I don't see an impeller. I'm certain they can provide you with one though. A call would be faster if you can make one. Be sure you point out where you are so that you can get a prompt and sympathetic reply (not that you're going to get much sympathy here, fixing your boat in an exotic place after all).

+1 on Moyer. They are outstanding. Ken the parts guy knows his stuff, worth a phone call.

Years ago I had an atomic 4 and Moyers was always the way to go. They know their stuff and are great to deal with.

If your globe impeller is the blue version, I have had nothing but trouble with them. I had two fail within 6 months of installation on two different 202 pumps. One split and disintegrated requiring removal of our heat exchanged. I went back to the black style impellers from Defender.

Problem solved

Hi all,

Thanks for your reactions and sorry for my slow reply. I tried many things, but in the end it turned out I just wasn't using the right kind of gasket paper. The one I had (and the one that was in there originally), was way too thick. Once I changed it for the original gasket paper, the engine cooled fine again. Yes, the blue Globe impellers work!
Thanks again for your reactions,
