The pics I see of the distruction in N.J. and N.Y. is just too much.
Even worse now that I'm a boat owner is the way the storm tossed @ boats.
Being the ever maintenance supervisor my first thoughts are always, "How are they gonna clean that up"?
So now, you have 22'? 25'? sailboat that was formly floating happily at a marina that is now 6? blocks inland and in a guys back yard.
Who contacts you that they have found you boat??
She banged up, but still a solid boat, so it's not "take a chain saw to her and toss the parts in a dumpster deal".
HOW do you get her back to the slip? home? shop? when the space to get her out won't handle a crane etc to lift her onto a trailer?
You drive a BIG truck or what ever to recover your life's dream into the guys back yard, it tears the fence up, ruts the grass, the home owner is already at the edge cuz of all the B.S. he's had to endure the last week, who pays for the yard to be repaired??
What about the owners who DON'T own a trailer?
Does the boat insurance pay for the recovery? Is that a separte part of the insurance policy??
(I don't even want to think about what would happen IF the boat owner didn't have insurance)!!!
How much damage constitutes a non salavageable boat?
I keep getting pics of boats sunk...
Again, how do they (whom ever THEY are-Coast Gaurd, private slavage companies, marina's?) get you boat afloat again.
I'm sure they have to clear the harbour or slip area of sunk boats before they can start rebuilding.
They lift?? (again HOW do they lift them???) get the boat floating again, contact the owner and ??? he pays? insurance pays??
Where do ALL the displaced boats go after they are put back afloat?
Jesus, if the boat owner didn't have enought to worry about, maybe his house is flooded, he's not working cuz of the flooding at his job, his truck is??? now his boat??
