Hi I have 87' Hunter 23. When I bought her she had her water tank and sink taken out. I was thinking about putting one back in. I feel it might be helpful when I overnight to was off hand, dishes, and whatnot. Althought I feel not wise to drink from. I havent made up my mind yet and was wondering if it was worth the hassel. It might just put MORE weight on the side already, alone with battery and engine! Well does anyone have any suggestions or experiences? Thanks

Weight not an issue

And it would certainly be convenient to have water onboard. I'd hire a kitchen contractor to take a look and give you a bid. Preferably someone who lives near the boat and doesn't have to travel far. Until now I've seen everything on this website except the kitchen sink.

H23 sink...

I've never used the sink on my H23, even when staying out over night on her. We always carry a cooler full of beverages so we never need the drinking water. We carry GoJo waterless hand cleaner for messes associated with the engine or fish (rinse in the lake) and a huge container of "wet ones" for wiping off hands after rinsing them in the lake. We also keep a bottle of Purell on board for sanitizing our hands before handling food. Even if you have the sink up and running the Purell and wet ones are great to have around.

Sink is not deep enough to be much use

I'd rather sit in the cockpit and do the washing up in a bucket. Buckets are also good for fetching water from over the side. For drinking water I have a bunch of old bleach bottles plus a couple of collapsible Coleman containers that hold about 2.5 gal. They have a spigot in the cap and fold flat when empty. They stow just about anywhere and are pretty inexpensive. See link below. They also come in a 5 gal. size but they weigh about 45 lb when full. You should find them in Walmart. Good luck. Peter's right

the original sink's too shallow to be of much use. If your starting from scratch, I'd look in the plumbing dept. of one of the major hardware chains and I bet you can find something that will work. The bucket in the cockpit does the trick as well. Dave h23 "Wind Dreamer"

Galley Sink

We only really use our sink to wash hands, rinse utensils off etc. We wash any dishes in a square dish pan out in the cockpit. We just fill the tub and then use a sunshower for a warm water rinse. Last winter I pulled the galley out and installed new laminate and finished all the wood. I could not find a stainless steel sink that would work for this space. I checked at RV places and the ususal marine supply houses. I am considering have our steel fabricator make one but I've got higher priorities for the boat at this point. If you find a sink please let us know, it would help out. Sailing seasons almost over and time for more boat projects. Rob Morton S/V Euphoria

Sink

I replaced mine with a stainless steel sink that was the same size. Take the sink out and bring it to a plumbing store. They most likely will order one. Sure beats the plastic sink. Check out http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-pumps-water/rv-sinks-bath.htm

Kitchen Sink

As I do spend quite a bit of time on afraidknot at times, I chose to seek out a very nice sink. I was lucky to find one that had been custom ordered at home depot. It is quite large (17"x18"x9.5") it gives me more storage while underway as well as the security of washing dishes with 3' chop. Also added the Plastimo 26 gallon water tank in the bow under the v berth. Also added the shure flow water pump on a 3 inch medium denisity foam pad that squeezes into the little pocket forward of the v berth. This dampens the sound so that you must listen very close to here the pump. I don't think one needs to install a accumalator tank although I did go with the 2 gallon size and installed it directly behind the bulk head (just above the twin batteries) up high so the pump cycles much less often and gives me more consistent water pressure. I then added a single hole high rise faucet with pull out sprayer to make it just a little over the top. Total cost around $300. This sounds like alot but believe me when you find yourself out on the Dry Tortugas in a 23' its a little easier knowing you have the nessary water. While this is not nessary it did give me something to do and makes afraidknot unique along with the many other additions on her and that is priceless.

Sounds like you've got it dialed in. We too spend extended amounts of time( usually 3 days min. to a week) on our 23 and the sink does come in handy. I've been toying with the idea for awhile of adding the flexible tank up front.Tell us more about your trip(s) to the dry tortugas even if you have to start a new thread. Thanks Dave h23 "Wind Dreamer"

I'd like to second the notion of more information. Would you be willing to post about your trips and your upgrades? When we camp out we spend a couple of days at a time and then usually one or two times we spend a week or 10 days out. I was glad to hear about your water tankage. Thats one of my projects for this winter. Thanks, Rob S/V Euphoria
