All,

I'm thinking about a long-term project of converting my 1974 Venture 22 to a junk rig with an unstayed keel-stepped mast. In all likelihood the mast would need to be forward of the stock tabernacle. Has anyone seen or heard of a 22 in this configuration? I was on another forum (the "junkrig" group on Yahoo) and one person was doing a more involved refit that included modifyig the deck...I'm not looking to do that. One other question...in planning for this possible refit I need to know the center of lateral resistance (CLR) for the boat...does anyone know where the CLR falls (assume keel and rudder extended). Thanks.

Someone in the keys did this, and it was up on Craigs list. (when I saw it). had some youtube video... I might have posted it about a year or so ago.

he was a full time live aboard...

-Why would you want to do this?
I would guess its faster down/off the wind, and has a unique look.

Any other reason?

here it is... a real beauty ;)

Also, check out the current issue of Small Craft Advisor (No. 75). There is a story on p. 22 of a guy who converted his 21 foot sailboat to a junk rig and he sails across oceans in it.

I'm planning on building a junk-rigged schooner when I retire in a few years, and wanted to get some experience with building the sail. The biggest attraction for the junk sail in my opinion is the ease of reefing.
