cutlass bearing

you do not need to go thur a dealer however it would make it easier because he should give you the right part no problem! You can match size and buy it at any marine supply house also, the choice is yours!

new cutlass bearing

I replaced my cutlass bearing after replacing the engine, shaft... I bought it at the local marine store, but it's also in the West Marine catalog (I'm sure in BoatUS also}. For my 1" shaft it is 1" inside diameter, 1-1/2" outside diameter and 4" length. Trellex-Morse model # Bonito. $50.00. I had one heck of a time removing the old. I hammered, used a mechanical puller and ended up using a hacksaw and cutting it lengthwise several times, being VERY careful not to mark the strut's inner tube. Any questions? (I replaced just about EVERYTHING mechanical and electrical last year on my 1979 C-30) contact me : wischbone@aol.com Good luck, Don Fitzpatrick

Cutlass replacement

Dear David, Thank you for the note. You can buy your cutlass bearing through many different sources. You will need to provide the shaft diameter and the inside dimension of the strut or housing, which holds the cutlass in place. During the process I would also look over the shaft at the bearing area to confirm that there is not to much wear or scoring. Too much wear will cause accelerated wear to the new cutlass bearing. Good luck. Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody
