I am looking to purchase a '78 C27. The general condition appears OK and it carries a 9.9hp outboard. When I checked below decks, there was standing water in the bilge around the keel bolts. I pumped it out by hand and there was no rust, etc. around the keel bolts. I plan on having the boat surveyed by a pro but I am wondering if there are any other items particular to a '78 C27 to watch out for. The owner has relocated to another state and the broker was not very knowledgeable about the boat. I crew on a 73 C27 and am impressed with the C27 as a result. This will be a first boat for my family (who have no sailing experience). Any info or comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The c27 is a very forgiving boat to sail, and a fun boat to learn to sail on. The archives has a lot of information regarding problem areas and things to check. Do a search under "buying an older 27", or try the link below for some. Ensure the surveyor is chosen by YOU and NOT the broker. Check the problem areas sited in the archives by yourself AND with the surveyor, and follow the surveyor around...they have lots of useful information to give you that isn't always written down.
