Just purchased a Hunter 31 in Feb and need to empty the waste holding tank. Our marina does not supply the required nozzles for this operation. They claim they disappear. Does anyone know the Westmarine part number or size for this item as there are about 3 chooses.

?????????????

Oh my God. What sort of derranged person would rip off a pump-out nozzle? I may never visit Texas again, the thought of mariners running around with pump-out nozzles stuffed down their pants is just too frightening. Might I suggest that a better plan is to find a new marina. Like in Florida, maybe?

Nozzle Rip off

Probably the same guy who steals the end of the air hose at the gas station where I go.

If You're at Scott's...

...tell Linda to up the bucks for the nozzle. They disappear because they do not have a storage box for them and the little rascals don't float either. I bet she's got about a dozen of them sitting on the bottom right next to the pump station. You might donate a cardboard box labelled Pump Out Fittings to the marina. Sheesh, I can't believe they told you that. Anyway, if you are going to buy your own, I recommend you buy the non-thread type. It's got a soft rubber tapered end that fits (almost) ALL deck plates. Yes, you have to stand there and hold it, but you don't have to thread the dang thang in everytime either. H31 is only 15 gallons and takes about 6-8 minutes for full pump out then 3 minutes for each of two rinses. You might suggest the marina buy the non-thread type and PERMANENTLY attach it to the hose so it won't sink....uh....disappear.

Hey, it happens

Pitman, I don't know which marina you are at, but if you go over to Scotts Landing, in the ships store they sometimes have (for sale) pumpout adapters. This is where I got mine, and yes they do disappear. Be careful as there are two different thread patterns that they carry (fine and coarse thread). Regards. Bruce. Neon Moon

Call SeaLand...

They offer a "unversal" pumpout connection for under $10. 800-321-9886

A little more detail on thread size...

Count the threads per inch (tpi) in your deck fitting. Older boats were equipped with deck fittings that had 16 tpi...newer fittings have only 11. The diameter can vary too--from 1.25" to 1.5". So measure both very carefully before you buy a fitting. If you're smart, you'll also pick up a couple of replacement caps if they have 'em. Pumpout deck fittings don't have chains...and if you have an odd size, replacement caps are just about impossible to find. All the original deck fittings on my 20 yr old boat were 1.5" diameter with 16 tpi...I finally had to replace the whole fitting because I couldn't find a cap that fits my pumpout.

You folks from Texas, can you tell me about some web sites that give general info on sailing in the Texas area? I can find lots of info on florida and the islands, but little on Texas.

Big Daddys Ship store has them in stock

I had breakfast at Big Daddys today and they have the nozzles in stock. I didn't check to see if they had different thread sizes, but they had a large number of nozzles. Regards. Bruce Neon Moon

Geoff, As a fellow 23 owner and in Texas, what do you want to do? We've got lakes all over the place and a coast to boot. You should check out Texas Parks Dept web sites as will as Central Texas Sailor. You could even check out little Ray Hubbard (that'll take about 4 1/2 hours -snooze). Let me know if you need a place to stay and/or park you boat. Greg-

Free Adapters In Texas

are available at Watergate Yachting Center in Clear Lake at the Marine Store right next to the pump out station. They say they do this to ensure everyboat has one so they can pump out at any time. (Besides, they get a great discount on them from somewhere up in North Texas).

Geoff, I suggest you go to your favorite search engine and search for sail texas as two words. You should get about 20,000 results. Then you can filter according to what you want to know such as: sail texas charters sail texas school sail texas ASA sail texas lake sail texas rent sail texas north (or central, south, east, or west) By the way, I also know several of the charter company owners personally. Let me know if you'd like referrals for schools or charters.

Jay, Bruce, and Greg, thanks for the tx info. I'm not interested in immediate needs, just looking to the future. At some time we hope to charter in the winter months and eventually buy a boat and live aboard for a few winter months. I'm just collecting data and ideas now. A charter next winter is possible. This summer we're chartering in Lake Superior again.
