There is a pully on a cable loop thru a cleat on the transom. does anyone know what it is for? I sail Lake Erie from Buffalo and am looking for anyone interested in sailing together. Thanks

The only cleat on my '84 transom is above the motor mount. Perhaps the PO used a line to help lift the motor or secure it during transport.

I agree with Bob. What you have sounds like what I had before replacing my engine mount with a spring loaded one. The PO had a line tied to that cleat that went through a block on the engine mount and back up to the cleat. It worked rather well but I wanted more mechanical advantage. Chris '83 Mac25 Chara

That makes sense.....the boat came with a spring loaded lift, but it has had many owners and is a 78. Thanks
