has anyone ever replaced a pull start rope on a outboard with any other type of rope besides the typical hardware store lawnmower 50lb break strength stuff?

Seems OEM rope is waxed. At least the pull rope
of my Yamaha seems to be lubed with a waxy substance. The original rope is still good since 1989. I keep a spare in the dingy. Point is, you need dependable rope for this application.

growing up on a farm - we had lawnmowers, grain elevators, hay balers, and i don't know what else had small motors with pull cords and when one broke we found something to fix it and i mean we used a bunch of stuff -- original works best through chuck and soulmates
