I am planning to sail my 37 oday to Destin FL. from Puerto Rico. The time frame is mid Nov. Does anyone out there have any advice or suggestions or has anyone made that trip? Looking for some help!!!

November cold fronts

Terry, November is usually the month that the cold fronts get strong enough to push all the way through Florida. Usually blows 25 to 30 for a day or two and the Gulf can get pretty nasty. Between the fronts is some of the best sailing weather of the year. You might want to consider the longer close to shore route so that you can duck into port if the front is predicted to be especially nasty. Sounds like a great trip. PM

I agree

As a cold front approaches, the wind will begin to veer from E to SE and then SW, often freshening as it does so. A change to NW and then N, usually accompanied by squalls, cooler temperatures and lower humidity, will occur as the front goes by, usually within the next 12 to 24 hrs. Crossing the Gulf Stream with the wind from the N is not a good idea because the wind will be opposing the current and can creates a chop of legendary proportions. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"
