Stu, the article you're thinking of was published in the "Hands-on-Sailor" column under the title "Cruising Without the Fridge" in the January 2009 issue of Cruising World begining on page 60. I found it interesting and informative, even though as a lake sailor I am unlikely to be on the water for more that a weekend at a time.
Moving on. Several of the latter postings raised an issue that has long puzzled me. The perceived necessity of alcholic beverages as part of a pleasurable outing or occassion. Please don't think I'm a teetotaler, I'm not. But I have never seen beer, wine or booze as adding much to an occassion. I do drink alcoholic beverages, but rarely and only if I like the flavor of the drink. However, I've talked with people on the docks, and elsewhere, who seem to favor getting the "cheap stuff" so they can afford to buy more without regard to whether it tastes good. IMHO, much of it does not taste good enough to justify the purchase price, let alone the potential consequences of overdoing it. So guys, why are you making such a big deal about the stuff?
