Would appreciate any comments positive or negative regarding performance or problems, or user-friendliness of the Hunter 27, 1990 Jim Taylor design. Any problems with rigging, engine, layout or design? This is our 10 year boat - moving up from the good old Hunter 22' - if we decide to make the leap! The Hunter 22' will be very hard to part with and all feedback pro or con re: 27' would be appreciated!

H-27 was wonderful

My first Hunter was a 1990 27 outboard version. Owned it for several years and never a minutes trouble from her. It was our first cabin boat, we moved up from an 18' Chrysler Buccaneer and it seemed thoughtfully designed, well laid out and very comfortable for 26 1/2 feet. It sailed very well in light to moderate winds, and required reefing about 15-18 knots. Overall it was a great boat. I'm in a new Hunter 320 now, and the H-27 was a big part of the reason I went back to Hunter for my present boat. Good luck.

Great cruising boat

I've sailed a 1990 27' Hunter (wheel) for 3 years along the coast of Maine. Really enjoy the diesel, cabin layout, enclosed head and cockpit room. Boat sails well however,it certainly is not for raceing. Also fuel gage is difficult to read.Longest cruise has been one week and is comfortable for two. No problems with sails (furling geona) or hull, equipment etc. Overall, great designed sailboat as a small family daysailer,or two person cruiser---(it helps if your married)

Hunter 27 for 7 years

This was my first crusing boat with all those big boat features. Diesel, wheel steering, Hot and cold pressure water, etc. I have never had one problem with the boat (except for usual inexpensive stuff) The best definition I can give this boat is "Its the least expensive boat you can buy with all the big boat stuff" It is easy to sail single handed. Like Stephen I have moved up to a 320 and in many way it compares to its sail-ability. I'm in the process of selling my 27 and I don't think you could buy a better boat for the money.
