Has anyone ever used a product called Prop Shield on their propellor to prevent barnacles and other growth? It is supposed to use a lanolin based coating that is painted on a heated propellor. Any thoughts

I am looking into this product as well. I talked to them and it seems that you can touch it up under water after it has initially been applied. I try to keep my boat in the water for 2 years so that's a bonus for me if I can touch it up.

I used propspeed 2 years ago and was not impressed with it. It could have been my fault as I was in a rush to apply it but for the price, I will give something else a try

Try Prop Speed...................Sold at West Marine............A little pricey but the smallest can can do your prop twice. It has given me two years protection in the Chesapeake Bay without having to have the prop cleaned.

An alternative to PropSpeed is HawkSpeed. It appears to be the same type of product with significantly easier application requirements and at about half to two thirds the price. I bought it last year from Fisheries Supply in the northwest. I haven't pulled my boat our yet so I can't comment on the effectiveness. Like PropSpeed, the smallest kit will do the prop easily twice, maybe three times. The problem will be how to measure out the product for mixing. I split the cost with a friend and we did both props on the same day. We could have done a third if we had lined up another friend.
