I'm looking at putting a folding prop on my C30. I've got the Universal 25 with a 2:1 reduction and a standard prop. Has anyone any experience with a folding one that they like?
After researching this issue, I found the evidence favors feathering props over folding props by a considerable margin. If you want to have good motoring performance, especially in reverse, feathering is the way to go. However, it is quite a bit more expensive. r-moretti@northwestern.edu
I've had a Martec folder on my C30 for about six years. Friends of mine with C30s also use it. In forward gear they actually drive the boat faster than a fixed two blade. Going in reverse is another story - but I only back into my slip. After 4 years I sent it back for an overhaul and it returned as good as new. I think there is a little vibration connected with it. Expect a 1 Kt increase in boat speed under sail.
